Business magazine Forbes has revealed its annual travel guide star ratings. This list details the finest hotels, restaurants and spas around the world, according to Forbes' army of incognito reviewers. These individuals have been working hard, sleeping on the softest beds and dining in the best restaurants – to get us the information we crave!

This year's run-down comprises the most star-ratings in the list's 58-year history.

No less than 42 new Five-Star hotels have been added to the list, along with two new Five-Star restaurants and two new spas.

Paris and London

Paris now has nine Five-Star hotels, while London added the Five-Star Goring – giving the UK capital as many top-flight hotels as its French counterpart.

Italy and Switzerland

Italy saw eight new Five-Star hotels added to the list – four in Rome, three in Florence and one in Milan. One Swiss hotel was added to the Five-Star section of the Forbes list.

Caribbean

Three new Caribbean hotels now enjoy Forbes' Five-Star accolade, while four Mexican hotels can now boast Forbes' Five-Star cachet.

Asia

There appears to be plenty of demand for luxury hotels in Asia, too, with two in Tokyo, one in Bangkok and four in the Chinese cities of Guangzhou, Macau, Shanghai and Hangzhou.

USA

Not to be outdone, the USA saw eight Five-Star hotels added to the coveted list.

Global desire for super-luxury hotels show no sign of abating – if the Forbes list is anything to go by. 154 Five Star hotels find themselves in this glitzy directory, along with 56 Five-Star restaurants and 47 Five-Star spas. 411 Four-Star hotels made the list, together with 187 Four-Star eateries, 180 Four-Star spas, as well as 159 Recommended hotels and 68 Recommended restaurants.
