Why Trump Should Visit His Wife's Country Again: Slovenia Tips

Posted on Wednesday, 31 May 2017

5 good reasons why the President – and you – should consider visiting the First Lady's birthplace.

Slovenia enjoyed an 8 per cent rise in tourist numbers year-on-year in March, with a large increase in visitors from the USA. The country's statistics office reported that stateside tourists leapt 30.6 per cent over the 12 months, according to NBCnews.com.

NBC are explaining the huge rise with one fact: Melania Trump was born there.

While no hard evidence was provided as to if the First Lady's provenance had indeed lifted Slovenia's tourism fortunes, it does at least seem possible.

But while thousands of Americans see the merit in visiting Slovenia, it seems that Melanie's husband does not. President Trump only visited the small Alpine nation once, when he was courting the former lingerie model.

However, there are rumours that Trump could meet Putin in Slovenia in the future.

But what other reasons might encourage the President – and anyone else – to visit Slovenia?

Golf courses

Trump loves golf – or at least he loves building places to play it. There are 13 golf courses in Slovenia – which isn't bad for such a diminutive nation. What's more, none of them are owned by Trump. Maybe he could pick up Royal Bled (King's) – it's considered one of the best.

Lake Bled

If Trump headed to Royal Bled for a spot of golf, he would be well advised to hang around and enjoy the nearby Lake Bled, offering as it does some sublime walking areas. If he does decide on a hill-walking holiday here, we hope he won't rush ahead of his good lady wife this time.

Predjama Castle, Postojna

Given his fondness of impregnable walls, it's odd that Trump has not been on a fact-finding mission to the mighty Predjama Castle, near Postojna. Indeed, there are scores of impressive castles around Slovenia whose vast fortifications Trump could scrutinise.

Steak – and Ketchup?

Trump likes to eat steak, but only when served with tomato sauce. If he visited Slovenia, he'd be spoilt for choice – at least as far as the steak goes (he only likes one brand of tommy K). TripAdvisor contributors say Kralj Zara BBQ Restaurant in Ljublijana is by far the best. Marko J commented: "I'm a big fan of a good steak, this is probably the best available in Slovenia. Had a side of coleslaw".

We're sure Trump can swap the coleslaw for ketchup.

The Dragon Bridge, Ljubljana

At the risk of being accused of delivering fake news, Melania might lead Mr T across this historic bridge and tell him about the magical green dragons that guard each end. With luck, their tails won't start to shake.
