The World's Smallest Camper – and it Weighs Just 40kg!
It's the ultimate in stripped-down, back-to-basics holiday-making: the miniature caravan. One Danish firm has developed a tiny RV that can be pulled along by bicycle or motorbike, which may just be the ultimate in free-range, healthy, low-cost tourism.
The little unit is called the Wide Path Camper and weighs just 88lbs (40kg), so towing it along won't be too troublesome for the fit. Along with a 200cm x 97cm bed, the diminutive camper boasts 300 litres of storage space (although you might not want to use all of that for holidays in hilly areas) and a sitting area for two.
The whole unit is foldable and can be set-up for use in just three minutes. Additional features such as sun covers and solar panels will be made available soon, say the manufacturers.
It is perhaps unsurprising that the Danes are behind this remarkable product. Firstly, Denmark is a land almost completely bereft of hills – so pulling one of these along with a bike would be a cinch.
Secondly, taking a break in a tiny plastic caravan and pulling it along with a push bike is arguably the antithesis of ‘status symbol vacationing' – and the Danes are known to be a pretty egalitarian lot.
And as the geniuses that brought us Lego, it's little wonder the Danes have given us another tiny plastic vehicle that is only big enough for one man (or woman).
This quirky little invention could be the devil incarnate for back-back sufferers, but to others, it could be the ultimate in affordable, environmentally friendly holidaymaking. It also looks like a lot of fun.
The basic cost of a Wide Path Camper is 2000 euros and will be available by the summer of this year. Britons may be especially keen to buy one while the pound remains so strong against the euro (1 GBP buys 1.38 euros presently).
