The World Health Organisation (WHO) have declared the coronavirus (COVID-19) as a global Pandemic.

Our travel insurance policies include a general exclusion regarding any epidemic or pandemic as declared by the WHO.

Therefore there is no cover under any section of this policy for claims in respect of Coronavirus (COVID-19), or any mutation of Coronavirus (COVID-19). This exclusion does not apply to claims under the Emergency Medical and Repatriation Expenses section whilst you are abroad and not travelling against FCO advice.

Holiday cancelled due to COVID-19:

If you have been affected by the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak you will firstly need to contact your airline, tour operator, accommodation provider, or other carriers to enquire about whether you can still travel, or about changing your travel dates.

Rearranging Policy Dates and Destinations:

We understand this is a distressing time and if you have not yet travelled to the affected areas, starttravel.co.uk is happy to assist with the following:

  • We will accept travel date changes to a new date which falls within 6 months of the original policy start date at no additional cost, as long as there is no increase in duration (single trip policies only)
  • Where a new trip date means that a trip will be one day longer than previously covered, we will accept this without an increase in premium
  • We will accept a change in destination to any other country, as long as there is no increase in premium. Changes to a higher rated area will be charged for on a pro-rata basis
  • Single trip policy holders who no longer wish to travel and who do not have a claim to make will be offered a full refund of the premium paid, even if this is outside of the 14 day cooling-off period.

Travelling to unsafe location:

Please be aware, starttravel.co.uk policies do not cover claims that arise as a result of you entering an area which is deemed unsafe to travel to by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

starttravel.co.uk will not cover claims if you choose to cancel your holiday as a fear of catching the COVID-19 virus (Coronavirus).

Frequently asked questions

Will I be covered if I catch COVID-19 (Coronavirus) whilst abroad?

If you were to catch the COVID-19 virus you would be covered under your policy, only if your policy was purchased before 16 March 2020. Cover as specified on Your Policy Schedule is provided for each 24-hour period that you are admitted to a hospital as an in-patient or held in compulsory quarantine outside the United Kingdom.

What should I do if my holiday is cancelled due to the COVID-19?

If your holiday if cancelled due to the COVID-19 virus, you will firstly need to contact your airline, tour operator, accommodation provider, or other carriers to enquire about whether they can still travel, or about changing travel dates.
