Super 8: Britons can travel to just eight countries without restrictions

(Please note that quarantine requirements (for both when you arrive in a country, and when you return to the UK) are changing frequently. There may also be additional entry requirements, such as a Covid-19 test or extra insurance. Make sure you check the Foreign & Commonwealth Office for the most up-to-date information.)

UK holidaymakers can now travel to just eight countries without restrictions or quarantine.

Travelling to the majority of international destinations now means you have to quarantine for two weeks either upon arrival, or when you return - and/or that you have to organise and pay for a coronavirus test.

Recently, a number of destinations have been added to the UK's quarantine list, including Denmark, Iceland and Slovakia.

The tiny nation of Liechtenstein remains on Britain's "air corridor list" - but insists arriving Britons quarantine for ten days, effectively making holidays there impractical.

What are the last remaining restriction-free destinations?

  • Germany
  • Gibraltar
  • Greece
  • Italy
  • Poland
  • San Marino
  • Sweden
  • Turkey

While the list contains some destinations loved by Britons, there may still be some extra hoops to jump through to gain entry.

Greece

Those from England heading to the Greek islands of Zante, Mykonos, Santorini, Crete, Lesvos, Tinos and Serifos must self-isolate for 14 days when they return. The same is true from travellers from Wales, but with the inclusion of Paros and Antiparos.

Scotland requires those returning from any part of Greece to self-isolate for 14 days.

Greece's Passenger Locator Form (PLF): How does it work?

All arrivals in Greece must fill out a Passenger Locator Form (PLF). This must detail your departure point, how long you stayed in previous destinations, and your accommodation address in Greece. The form must be completed the day before arrival in Greece. Having submitted the PLF, travelers will receive a notification email, then a Quick Response (QR) code at midnight immediately before the day of their arrival, which must be presented upon arrival.

For more information on the PLF, visit https://travel.gov.gr/

A note on Cyprus

While Cyprus does not make the list of eight above, you can visit if you arrange a coronavirus test. This can cost from £100 and is not available on the NHS.

Other destinations that can be visited with a coronavirus test are Cyprus, Madeira, Azores and Estonia.

Some people have had trouble getting the required tests done within 72 hours of departure.

The October break

Many British families will be considering a week or two of sunshine during the October break. While the above countries can be visited, it's important to remember a nationwide lockdown is theoretically possible - which might mean sudden rush home.
