GoPro Hero 7 Leak: Updated Holiday Action Cam in 3 New Models

Posted on 20 September 2018

Details of GoPro's eagerly-awaited new action camera range have been leaked by US retailer B&H.

Hero7 Black

Top of the range is the Hero7 Black, which boasts the ability to stream live video. This product arguably represents the ultimate in action camera technology, featuring a 12MP sensor that can capture full 4K video at an impressive 60fps. The unit also features a digital image stabilisation system called "HyperSmooth", which is not bundled with the other two, cheaper models. GoPro says this stabilisation technology is "gimbal-like". And for those who really need to know, the Hero7 captures 4K at a maximum bitrate of 78Mbps. It also boasts excellent slow-motion capabilities at 1080, capturing a whopping 240 frames per second.

Hero7 Silver

The mid-range Hero7 Silver offers a still-decent 10MP sensor that can pick up 4K at 30fps and 1080 at 60fps. The Silver can shoot 1080p60 with GoPro's existing stabilization system - although not with the - presumably much better - "HyperSmooth" tech of the Black model.

Hero7 White

The entry-level model is nowhere near as fancy as the new Black model, but can still capture full 1080 at 60fps, meaning it can play back at half-speed.

How much will they cost?

Pricing has not been released as yet, but the price listed in US dollars is usually the same figure in GBP (e.g. the most recent Hero6 list price is $399 in the US and £399 in the UK - which might seem a little unfair to GoPro fans on this side of the pond).

Only the Hero7 Black will have a removable battery, according to leaks.

What other action cameras compare to the Hero7 range?

Campark action cam 16MP - £40

At around £40, the Campark is worth a look if you're on a tight budget. It boasts a 16MP camera and a Wi-Fi remote control. It can be taken underwater to a depth of 30m. It also comes with mounting accessory kits and rechargaeble batteries.

Crosstour 4K 16MP - £50

Another amazingly low-cost action camera, the £50 Crosstour boasts 4K capture at 25fps - which is technically better than the brand new entry-level Hero7 White model.

APEMAN 4K Underwater Action Camera - £66

This model features a 20MP sensor, 4K capabilities and is waterproof up to 30M. In this YouTube review it compares well to the GoPro Hero4, which makes it a steal at under £70.
